First, the assault weapons ban was listed as an agenda item on Obama's website.
Then it magically disappeared from the website.
Now it's back:
Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.
We have every reason to believe that Barack Obama fully intends to enact this laundry list of stupid proposals.

To have a teacher call you and demand that your guns be locked up or to be reported is bad.
To lose your parental rights just for gun ownership is the way these folks are going.
Indeed, since this language has been updated from the "cut and paste" that was there originally. Someone looked over this (perhaps with input from someone who knows how many of the "weapons that belong on foreign battlefields" are in the hands of the police, even sold surplus to them by the Feds) and excised that bit of rhetoric.
This is for real, we just don't know how well it will fly in a Democratic Congress that was out of power for 12 years due to the last one they passed (a lesson hammered home by Gore's loss in 2000).
